An excited rock band playing their instruments with enthusiasm.

Make An Unbelievably Famous Band Now

Now let’s be honest, being a real famous rock star is a long shot. But for some…. it’s a shot worth taking.

They say in life if you want to do good, you got to hang around someone to become like that person. Another good one is, imitate who you want to be. Well I’m here to set you straight! Straight down the path you want to go.

Only You Can Make Yourself Famous But Sometimes You Need A Little Help

Only you can go where you want to go. It’s no mystery. No one’s gonna take you by the hand and say do this, do that.

Although there are some that will charge you 5,000 dollars an hour to do just that. If you don’t believe me go watch it on YouTube, it’s called,…. “Actual Live Call With Dan Loc” by Dan Loc. Watch it below. And I’m not saying there’s nothing necessarily wrong with that but sometimes that’s exactly what we need. We need someone to tell us exactly what to do every step of the way….

But in reality, the only person that can make us do anything is ourselves. Sure people can help us but only we can do it. No one can make us pick up weights to exercise. Sure they can yell at us, (our coach) they can snarl at us. But we’re the only one that’s going to be picking up the weights, if we choose to.

I said all that, to say this… No ones going to make you famous but you. If you’re willing to put the work in, you can become famous. The more work you put in, the more famous you can become. HOW famous you want to be is up to you.

Because there is different levels to being famous. Do you want to be the king of the world, packing in rock hit after rock hit? Or do you just want to be local famous? Where only people where you live at know your fame? Or do you want to only be famous amongst your friends and acquaintances?

But know this… however level of famousness- (how famous you want to be,)[my made up word,] it may require more work. Unless that is, you’re already good at your craft.

Some Already Know How To Play Their Instruments, Some Don’t

Your instrument of choice. Whether that is guitar, bass, keyboards, drums or piano or maybe even singing. I’ve seen some singers not have to work at their craft, they just opened up their mouth and out came beauty, a great voice.

Don’t believe me? Look at Michael Jackson he was only 5 when he started singing. An instant success with his voice. He even had his dancing down too. Did you ever see him spin around when he was a child? Man had some moves! Now, I know he had to work on choreography and learning new songs but the man basically had it all down from the start.

But maybe you play an instrument and you don’t have it down yet. You could use a few practices. Or maybe even a lot of practices. No matter what instrument we choose, if we need to practice, keep practicing until you get it down to where you can play.

Now your practicing has gone to playing, which is what you want to do.

Now wasn’t that fast? No, but really, once you get to the point were you don’t have to take all day practicing and you can learn your tunes very quickly in a short amount of time or you can do it on the fly, (instantly,) you’ll be that much closer to achieving your dream, well at least part of your dream….and then stepping on stage.

But first you have to go from practicing to rehearsing to playing. Huh?… I never heard nobody say it like that. I know, that’s why you’re on my blog. We only do the best here. But seriously, you’re going to have to practice, rehearse and play.

Let’s tackle that practicing part first. Practice the songs you like in your band. This can be done all together as a band or separately, one at a time.

Each member can work on the parts that they need to work on in order to be able to play that same song together as a band. When everyone is finished practicing it.

Or you can practice it all together and stop and go as a team, as you are all making sure you are playing it right as you go through the song. That is practicing.

Now the rehearsing part is where you’ve already learned each song as a band. You no longer have to practice it anymore because you all have worked on it to know how to play the song on your instruments. So that means you are all at the rehearsal state.

Now you just have to rehearse the song together to make sure you have your timing down and have smooth flow on your instruments without hesitation.

Now the more fun part, where musicians are able to play!… They can now enjoy the song the way it sounds as they play it all together as a band. Everyone in the band knows how to play the song with no hesitation. They have the song down tight.

They know how to play the chords, the guitar parts, the drum parts, the bass parts and the keyboard parts. Even the singer knows his parts. Everyone is playing together as a band. They have as they say,… “Flow.”

Rock band having lots of fun playing instruments and singing.

Now as a band you must:

  1. Practice
  2. Rehearse
  3. Play

Who Starts The Song? The Guitar? The Bass? The Keyboard? The Drums?

Now everyone knows in the band that the singer is the leader in the band. He’s the one that must start the songs. The band goes by his cues. But this isn’t always the case is it?

Because everyone knows that any instrument can start the song . You’ve all heard where sometimes the bass player sometimes starts the song, just like they did on Queens song, “Another One Bites The Dust.”

Or we’ve all heard where the guitar starts the song. Just like it was done on Ozzy’s Osbourne’s song, “Crazy Train.” In which Randy Rhodes did the powerful guitar riff there.

And we’ve heard where the keyboard starts the song on Prince’s song, “1999.” With that powerful keyboard synth sound that introduces the song.

And we have all heard songs being introduced with the drums first, like in Michael Jackson’s song…. “Billie Jean.”

These cues are needed, as that lets the musicians know their place and gets them ready, as they must make sure they play their parts on time. This is accomplished of course by already knowing the parts ahead of time and by relaxing and being confident that you can handle your own. That you can do your parts of the song.

Just like a football player must know his routes ahead of time. A guitar player must know his parts ahead of time. He must know how the song goes, in order to be a successful musician.

Enter The Real World! Boys Get Ready For The Big Leagues!

If you want to take it a step farther, then you’re gonna have to do somethings. To step up the ladder of success. How far do you want to climb that ladder? That’s up to you. But i will try to get you up as high as I can. Which is to the top baby!

Let’s take this one step at a time if I can. Since we’ve already got you practicing and playing, let’s hit the big boys up. Might as well….

If you already got your playing down. Lets hold some auditions. But first we got to get on stage for them to see us first….or do we?

Enter the world of the digital…. no longer do you have to pack your band up and trek across the world, putting wear and tear on your body, when you don’t need to, although you can do it later on. But for now, lets go the digital route.

Young man going into a building, with a laptop.
No longer do you physically have to go to the music corporations, you can now go to them digitally, most times

Boys! Lets go to the digital store and then lets send our digital goods to the big boys. The music industry!

Now how does that work? Now don’t get all complicated and make this sound like it’s a hard thing to do because it isn’t. Keep it simple and it will all be easy sailing. All you got to do is just ride the wave, you dig.

We just play by their rules and see what they say. Let’s send them our songs, our hits, the way each of these music corporations want us to, because each corporation is different. Each and everyone of them.

Some want you to send them your songs with exact words that say:

Met you through the website TAXI.COM. I am pitching this song to THE BIG FAMOUS ARTISTS named: NICKLEBACK because that’s the artists I want for them to do my song. And my contact information is: JOHN DOE, 222 MAPLE STREET, OAKLAND, ANYWHERE, 12345. MY PHONE NUMBER is 777-123-4567. Here’s my link of the song in this email you so kindly wanted me to send to you. Thank You! Steve Sample (Music Publisher in the industry.)

See how easy that was? All I did was follow the exact way they wanted me to send them my song.

I got permission to send it to him first (The Music Publisher named Steve Sample,) cause I found him, Steve Sample (The Music Publisher) online through a website site called TAXI.COM. (Which is a real site.)

He was expecting me to send it to him, which I just did……..Steve Sample and the music company he works for, wants for all people that contact them, to do it this way, with those words, ONLY!

Laptop used for music. Music keyboard and headphones and cellphone. And speakers hanging on wall.
Send your songs digitally to the music industry

The company didn’t want me to send them a photo or lyrics and not even a bio. Probably cause it makes the email to hard to read with to much words and space.

All they wanted was …. How did you find out about me Steve Sample? I told him I found out about him through the website TAXI.COM….. And I told him who I know in the industry that I want to send the hit song of mine to, which was the band: NICKLEBACK….. And my contact information. (Which is my address and phone number.)

Now remember every company in the music industry is different, some want you to send emails differently.

So, whoever you send your email to, for them to hear your music, whether it is music distributors, magazines, music blogs, radio shows, promotional services or record labels, you have to check THEIR SPECIFIC submission guidelines before you send them your email.

Follow this easy rule of promoting your songs, your hits. And you’ll have a great chance of them hearing your songs.

So don’t send your email on blast, unannounced, sending unsolicited material. And don’t write with bad spelling and grammar, and such. And also know what type of songs the service you’re contacting wants to receive.

Never send to labels who are not interested in your style of music. Just like you like your own styles of music, they also like their own styles of music too.

Sending styles of music they don’t like will only waste your time and theirs because they’re not going to listen to music that they don’t like because it doesn’t sound pleasant to them. So don’t send to EVERY label you can think of. Don’t blast your music to everyone in the industry.

Cellphone clicking on music app.

That was just your first step when you wrote your hit songs. Now you have to get your foot in the door. Don’t do it the amateur way and send them MP’3s attached to emails. They will clog up their inbox and crash their email program. You have to be professional with them and handle yourself in a professional manner.

So be the professional that you are and send your music to them using a SoundCloud stream. Now SoundCloud allows the music industry or anyone for that matter, to listen to your songs. You can use SoundCloud to share your music to people in the music industry PRIVATELY. Because people in the music industry love it when you send them your music privately and not publicly.

Man smiling looking at computer screen.

When you use SoundCloud and send them your stream of music, all the people in the music industry have to do is just quickly check it out and if they like it, they will download it from SoundCloud. And if they do, that means they have access to your song and since they downloaded it, it probably means they will tell others in there industry about your hit songs. Giving you a greater chance of them using your hit songs for profit.

Note: You can also use Dropbox or Byta.com or any other music sharing service that uses a professional way of sending music to people in the music industry.

Remember to think like a music label. They are just looking for a hit song. That’s all they want. Your job is to get it to them and to make sure it really is a hit song. They are a business and they are just looking to survive. They NEED your hit. Use that to your advantage. They are going to need money and revenue.

Your Bands Going To Need Marketing Value

They will be not only looking for your hit but they will be looking for if you or your band has marketing value, meaning do you and your band, just by looking at you and your band and listening to you and your band, do you all have the potential to be marketable on your image AND your music?

Image and SOUND is everything in the music industry. You know what they say, that image is everything,…..well in the music industry, image AND sound is everything.

Well in the music industry, image AND sound is everything.

The music industry LOVES attention. Give them that attention with your image and with your sound.

Dress nicely and smell pleasant, if they see you publicly. Now by dressing nicely I don’t mean you have to wear a suit and tie but dress like you really dress but make sure it ain’t all raggedy clothes and stuff. If you dress thuggish, dress thuggish. If you dress clean cut with a pop look, then do that. Or however you dress, make sure it is your style but dress appealing, as you’re not some bum off the street. You get my point.

They will look for artists or bands that have fan bases as well. Do you have people that are crazy for you? And if you do, is it A LOT of people? Because if it is, then that is seen in the music industry as a band that has marketing appeal, where they can not only make money of your sound but also off your marketing appeal.

If they put you on TV they will know you will make them a lot of money just by your image, which is your marketing appeal.

This is why you always see big famous music stars always dressing nice EVERYWHERE they go because they know that their image is having a MARKETING APPEAL.

And it will generate more and more money for them (the big famous music stars) because people will want to keep buying their music because their star image is attracting you to them. And thus makes you want to buy their music.

Look at Ice Cube. Just by looking at him makes you want to go buy his music. Or when you see pictures of Elvis Presley, it makes you want to go buy his music, if you’re into their kind of music. The reason you want to buy their music is because of marketing appeal.

What’s happening now because of that new movie that just came out called, “BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY” with the music artist, “QUEEN” in it. It has so much marketing appeal because of the image of Queen, that the record sales are going through the roof. The record sales are monstrous, they are huge!

Get your bands image up to par and enjoy the fruits of marketing appeal. Make people want to buy your music just by the way you look.

And get more people to buy your music by the way you sound also. Get your great hits out there.

So:

  1. You’re going to need SOUND for marketing value.
  2. You’re going to need IMAGE for marketing value.
  3. You’re going to need ATTENTION for marketing value.

Do Not Over Do It. Don’t Panic

After reading all this it may cause you to over do it. You may panic and say “Well I gotta get A LOT of hit songs out because ol Prince had a lot of hits or Elton John the master at piano hits had a huge amount of hits.” But what you got to realize is they didn’t. Not at first….. they worked their way over the years to have them hits.

When famous music stars and bands first started they only had one hit. Some had two hits. But all of them had few hits or one hit when they first started.

And you will too. So don’t be thinking oh because I ain’t cranking out a lot of hits that means I’m messing up. ALL you need is ONE hit! WHAT DID YOU SAY? ONE hit? Yes I did, you heard correctly. All you need is one hit, more if you can but if you just have one that’s good enough for now. Later on you can pop out more hits.

Don’t believe me? CASE IN POINT: “RICKY MARTIN back in the day, in the year, 1999. Ricky Martin only had two hits. That’s right two hits when he first started in America. The first one was, ”Livin ‘La Vida Loca” and the second one was, “She’s All I Ever Had” as far as the top ten hits categories go.

Ricky Martin supporting his own Ricky Martin Foundation at the National Puerto Rican Day Parade.

So aim low at first and then slam em with more later. Unless you do already have a lot of hits up your sleeve already, I wouldn’t worry to much about it.

In fact Ricky Martin said when he got out of the music industry that people would accuse him of being a one hit wonder if he dropped out of the music industry because he only had 5 top ten hits on the American charts, but he didn’t care, he said, if they say that.

Yes concentrate with the little bit of hits that you have now or one at first.

It’ll take the stress off.

Anybody can come up with a hit song if they are as creative as you. Don’t give me that ol line of, there are hits out there that never get heard. Believe me if you make a hit, the people will follow, meaning you make a hit and the people will come to hear it, guaranteed! IF you put it out there in public, for people to hear.

Believe me if you make a hit, the people will follow, meaning you make a hit and the people will come to hear it, guaranteed! IF you put it out there in public for people to hear.

When’s the last time you walked by and heard a song you liked and just moseyed about your business? You just didn’t pay it no mind? That’s right! When you hear something you like you react to it and even want to keep hearing it.

And if you can’t hear it now you want to hear it later. And not only that but you’re willing to pay for it if you can, to hear it again, for your own pleasure.

Songs are powerful. Don’t underestimate them, people have walked away with a lot of money because of it. Be willing to become famous for it, if you choose.
